Australian Market is Going Negative


  • The Australian market is losing the heat despite a positive start in morning session. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index opened at 5,316 and the broader All Ordinaries index opened at 5319.
  • Around mid day session, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was down 6.5 points, or 0.1 per cent, at 5,310.5 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index fell 6.1 points, or 0.11 per cent, at 5,312.7 points.
  • The local market started strongly today morning supported by strong rallies in Europe and US markets but then investors started feeling nervous about Chinese economic data to be released later this week and early next week.
  • Australian dollar is trading up and down against US dollar. Presently, the local currency (AUD) is trading at 89.22 US cents.

Australian Market Closed Slightly Lower Today


  • The Australian markets closed slightly lower as investors traded cautiously about how China and Asian economies are tracking and that's why the mining stocks didn't perform well today. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index closed at 5317 (-7.9 points) while the broader All Ordinaries index closed slightly negative at 5318.8 (-8.9 points).

Australian Market is Trading Slightly Higher Today


  • The Australian market is trading slightly higher today with marginal gains by most of the sectors and other sectors are trying to offset the solid losses made by mining shares. 
  •  In morning session, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index opened at 5,325 while the broader All Ordinaries opened at 5,328.
  • Australia’s trade balance figures for November on Tuesday showed a better than expected lift in mining, and resources exports helped to narrow the deficit for the fourth consecutive month. But it was not enough to lift miners’ stocks.
  • The Australian dollar is trading marginally weak against US dollar at 89.27 US cents.

Australian Market Closed Lower Today


  • The Australian market closed lower today as most of the investors remained away from active trading today. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was closed at 5,324.9 (25.2 points down) and the broader All Ordinaries was closed at 5327.7 (24.1 points down).\

Australian Shares are Dipping in Quiet Trading Session


  • The Australian market is trading slightly lower as today's trading session is considered as a quiet one. In morning, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index opened flat previous level of 5,350 while the broader All Ordinaries also opened at last closing level of 5,352
  • At 1205 AEDT, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index had dropped 14 points, or 0.26 per cent, to 5,336.1 points. The broader All Ordinaries index had shed 12.1 points, or 0.23 per cent, to 5,339.7 points.
  • At 1200 AEDT among the big miners, BHP Billiton was off 22 cents at $37.55, Rio Tinto had sagged 59 cents to $67.77, and Fortescue Metals had dumped four cents to $5.78.
  • The Australian dollar is trading weak against its US counterpart at 89.49 US cents.

Australian Markets Make Positive Start to 2014


  • The Australian market is trading higher as investors' outlook is positive on first trading day of 2014.
  • The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index opened higher today morning at 5,356.80 while the broader All Ordinaries opened at 5,354. 
  • In the resources sector, global miner BHP Billiton had lifted 18 cents at $38.17, Rio Tinto was 57 cents richer at $68.75 and Fortescue Metals had improved five cents to $5.87.
  • Among the major banks, Westpac had added two cents to $32.40 as it completed its $1.45 billion purchase of Lloyds Banking Group’s Australian motor and equipment finance business.
  • ANZ had gained three cents at $32.26, Commonwealth Bank was up 26 cents at $78.06 and National Australia Bank was 2.5 cents higher at $34.855.
  • Australian dollar is trading marginally stronger against the US dollar. AUD is trading at 89.23 US cents.
